クロム酸⇄二クロム酸 色で見る化学平衡Chromate ⇄ Dichromate: Equilibrium by Color
ねらいGoal:2CrO₄²⁻(黄)+2H⁺ ⇌ Cr₂O₇²⁻(橙)+H₂O の平衡が、[H⁺] を増やすと右(橙)へ、減らすと左(黄)へ、水で薄めると粒子数の多い左(黄)へ移動することを、色・粒子数・濃度の値から理解する。Students understand, from the color, particle counts and concentrations, that the equilibrium 2CrO₄²⁻ (yellow) + 2H⁺ ⇌ Cr₂O₇²⁻ (orange) + H₂O shifts right (orange) when [H⁺] is increased, left (yellow) when it is decreased, and left (yellow, more particles) when the solution is diluted with water.

3確かめようCheck
- [H⁺] を 1.00e-2 から 1.00e-1 mol/L に上げると、平衡組成と色はどう変わるか。When [H⁺] is raised from 1.00e-2 to 1.00e-1 mol/L, how do the composition and color change?→ 正反応 v₁ の矢印が長くなり(Q < K)、右へ移動する。[CrO₄²⁻] は約 0.0656 → 0.0106 mol/L に減り、[Cr₂O₇²⁻] は約 0.0172 → 0.0447 mol/L に増えて、溶液は橙色になり、橙色の粒子が多くなる。The forward arrow v₁ becomes longer (Q < K) and the equilibrium shifts right: [CrO₄²⁻] falls from about 0.0656 to 0.0106 mol/L and [Cr₂O₇²⁻] rises from about 0.0172 to 0.0447 mol/L, so the solution turns orange and orange particles dominate.
- [H⁺] を 1.00e-3 mol/L に下げるとどうなるか。What happens when [H⁺] is lowered to 1.00e-3 mol/L?→ 逆反応 v₂ の方が速くなり(Q > K)、左へ移動する。[CrO₄²⁻] ≈ 0.0992 mol/L、[Cr₂O₇²⁻] ≈ 4×10⁻⁴ mol/L となり、溶液はほぼ黄色になる。The reverse reaction v₂ becomes faster (Q > K) and the equilibrium shifts left: [CrO₄²⁻] ≈ 0.0992 mol/L and [Cr₂O₇²⁻] ≈ 4×10⁻⁴ mol/L, so the solution becomes almost entirely yellow.
- [H⁺]=1.00e-2 mol/L のまま CT を 0.100 から 0.010 mol/L に薄めると、クロムのうち CrO₄²⁻ として存在する割合はどう変わるか。With [H⁺] = 1.00e-2 mol/L, when CT is diluted from 0.100 to 0.010 mol/L, how does the fraction of chromium present as CrO₄²⁻ change?→ 約 66%(0.0656/0.100)から約 93%(9.31×10⁻³/0.010)に増える。薄めた直後は Q が K より大きくなり(約 1.2×10⁵)、逆反応が速くなって左(黄色、粒子数の多い側)へ移動する。It rises from about 66% (0.0656/0.100) to about 93% (9.31×10⁻³/0.010). Right after dilution Q exceeds K (about 1.2×10⁵), so the reverse reaction is faster and the equilibrium shifts left (yellow, more particles).
- どの状態でも成り立っている2つの関係は何か。Which two relationships hold in every state?→ 平衡では K=[Cr₂O₇²⁻]/([CrO₄²⁻]²[H⁺]²)=4×10⁴(「K検算 4.000e+4」)であること、そして物質収支 [CrO₄²⁻]+2[Cr₂O₇²⁻]=CT(粒子でも「Cr 収支: 18 + 2×41 = 100」のように Cr₂O₇²⁻ 1個が Cr 2個分)が成り立つこと。At equilibrium, K = [Cr₂O₇²⁻]/([CrO₄²⁻]²[H⁺]²) = 4×10⁴ ("K check 4.000e+4"), and the chromium balance [CrO₄²⁻] + 2[Cr₂O₇²⁻] = CT always holds (also in particles, e.g. "18 + 2×41 = 100", where each Cr₂O₇²⁻ counts as 2 Cr).
4考えようThink further
- [H⁺] を一定にして水で薄めると、なぜ平衡が左へ移動するのか。平衡定数の式を使って説明しよう。Why does dilution at constant [H⁺] shift the equilibrium to the left? Explain with the equilibrium-constant expression.→ 全体を x 倍に薄めると、分子の [Cr₂O₇²⁻] は 1/x 倍だが、分母の [CrO₄²⁻]² は 1/x² 倍になるので、Q は x 倍に大きくなり K を上回る。Q を K に戻すように逆反応が進み、CrO₄²⁻ が増える。これは、薄めて粒子の濃度が下がると、粒子数を増やす向き(左:Cr₂O₇²⁻ 1個 → CrO₄²⁻ 2個)へ平衡が移動するというルシャトリエの原理と一致する。Diluting by a factor x makes [Cr₂O₇²⁻] in the numerator 1/x as large but [CrO₄²⁻]² in the denominator 1/x² as large, so Q becomes x times larger and exceeds K. The reverse reaction runs until Q = K again, increasing CrO₄²⁻. This matches Le Chatelier's principle: when dilution lowers particle concentrations, the equilibrium shifts toward more particles (left: 1 Cr₂O₇²⁻ → 2 CrO₄²⁻).
- 酸を加えて橙色にした溶液に塩基(NaOH など)を加えると、色はどうなると予想できるか。If a base (e.g., NaOH) is added to the orange, acidified solution, what color change would you expect?→ OH⁻ が H⁺ と反応して [H⁺] が減るので、作品で [H⁺] を下げたときと同じく平衡が左へ移動し、溶液は黄色に戻る。OH⁻ reacts with H⁺ and lowers [H⁺], so, as when [H⁺] was lowered in the simulation, the equilibrium shifts left and the solution turns yellow again.
よくある誤解Common misconceptions
- 「水で薄めると色が薄くなるだけで、平衡は変わらない」という考え。この反応では両辺のイオン粒子数が違うため、薄めると組成そのものが黄色側へ移動する。"Diluting only makes the color paler; the equilibrium does not change." Because the two sides have different numbers of ion particles, dilution actually shifts the composition toward yellow.
- 「平衡が移動すると、加えた H⁺ はすべて消費されて元に戻る」という考え。平衡の移動は変化を一部打ち消すだけで、新しい平衡では [H⁺] が高いまま組成が変わる(K は一定)。"When the equilibrium shifts, the added H⁺ is completely used up and everything returns to the original state." The shift only partly offsets the change; the new equilibrium has a different composition at the higher [H⁺], with K unchanged.

このモデルでは [H⁺] は緩衝作用で一定と仮定しており、水で薄めても [H⁺] は変わりません(実際に水だけで薄めると [H⁺] も下がり、さらに左へ移動します)。K=4×10⁴ は教材用に固定した値で、活量や HCrO₄⁻ などの他の化学種は考慮していません。重クロム酸カリウム・クロム酸カリウムは有害なので、実験で演示する場合は少量で扱い廃液を適切に処理してください。The model assumes [H⁺] is held constant by a buffer, so dilution does not change it (diluting with plain water would also lower [H⁺] and shift the equilibrium further left). K = 4×10⁴ is a fixed teaching value; activities and other species such as HCrO₄⁻ are ignored. Potassium chromate and dichromate are toxic, so if you demonstrate this in the lab, use small amounts and dispose of waste properly.
