ピストンで探る気体粒子の圧力Gas Pressure in a Piston Cylinder
ねらいGoal:気体の圧力は自由に飛びまわる粒子が壁に衝突することで生じ、体積を小さくしたり温度を上げたりすると、粒子そのものは変わらないまま衝突が増えて圧力が大きくなることを粒子のモデルで理解する。Using the particle model, students understand that gas pressure comes from freely moving particles hitting the walls, and that reducing the volume or raising the temperature increases the hits and the pressure while the particles themselves stay the same.

1予想しよう(触る前に)Predict (before you touch anything)
- 温度を変えずにピストンを押しこんで体積を半分にすると、中の気体の圧力はどうなるだろうか。If you push the piston in to halve the volume without changing the temperature, what will happen to the gas pressure?💡 せまい空間で、粒子が壁にぶつかる回数はどうなるか考えよう。Think about how often particles would hit the walls in a smaller space.
- 気体を温めると、気体の粒子そのもの(大きさや数)は変わるだろうか。When a gas is heated, do the gas particles themselves (their size or number) change?💡 温度を上げたとき、粒子の何が変わるのかに注目しよう。Focus on what about the particles changes when the temperature rises.
2動かしてみようTry it
- 初期状態(温度 300 K、体積 100 %、粒子数 30 個)で、左の「圧力」メーターの値(基準比 約 1)と、下の「壁衝突 … 回/秒」を記録する。In the starting state (Temperature 300 K, Volume 100 %, Particles 30), record the value on the "Pressure" gauge (about 1 vs. start) and the "Wall hits … per s" readout at the bottom.
- 温度は 300 K のまま「体積」を 50 % まで下げ、2〜3 秒待ってから圧力と壁衝突の回数を読む。Keep the temperature at 300 K and lower "Volume" to 50 %. Wait 2–3 seconds, then read the pressure and the number of wall hits.
- 「体積」を 100 % に戻し、「温度」を 500 K、続いて 100 K に変えて、粒子の速さと圧力の変化を見る。粒子の大きさ・数・色が変わるかどうかも確かめる。Return "Volume" to 100 %, then change "Temperature" to 500 K and then to 100 K. Watch how the particle speed and the pressure change, and check whether the particles' size, number or color change.
- 「温度」を 300 K に戻し、「粒子数」を 60 個にして圧力を読む。Return "Temperature" to 300 K, set "Particles" to 60, and read the pressure.
3確かめようCheck
- 温度を変えずに体積を 100 % から 50 % にすると、圧力と壁衝突の回数はどうなったか。When the volume went from 100 % to 50 % at constant temperature, what happened to the pressure and the wall hits?→ どちらも増えた。圧力はおよそ 2 倍(基準比 約 2)になり、壁衝突も毎秒 20 回台から 30 回台後半くらいに増えた(値はゆらぐ)。Both increased. The pressure became about twice as large (about 2 vs. start), and wall hits rose from the 20s to the high 30s per second (the numbers fluctuate).
- 体積 100 % のまま温度を 300 K から 500 K に上げると、粒子の動きと圧力はどうなったか。With the volume at 100 %, what happened to the particles' motion and the pressure when the temperature went from 300 K to 500 K?→ 粒子が速く動くようになり(平均の速さ 約 380 → 約 470 px/s)、圧力は基準比 約 1.7〜1.8 に上がった。100 K にすると粒子はゆっくりになり、圧力は下がった。The particles moved faster (mean speed about 380 → about 470 px/s), and the pressure rose to about 1.7–1.8 vs. start. At 100 K the particles slowed down and the pressure fell.
- 温度や体積を変えたとき、粒子の大きさ・数・色は変わったか。Did the particles' size, number or color change when you changed temperature or volume?→ 変わらない(直径は 12 px のまま「不変」と表示される)。変わったのは粒子の間隔と動く速さだけ。No (the diameter stays 12 px and is labeled "fixed"). Only the spacing between particles and their speed changed.
- 粒子数を 30 個から 60 個にすると、圧力はどうなったか。What happened to the pressure when the number of particles went from 30 to 60?→ およそ 2 倍(基準比 約 2)になった。壁にぶつかる粒子が増えるため。It roughly doubled (about 2 vs. start), because more particles hit the walls.
4考えようThink further
- 閉じた空のペットボトルを冷蔵庫で冷やすとへこむことがあるのはなぜか。粒子のモデルで説明しよう。Why can a closed, empty plastic bottle get dented when it is cooled in a refrigerator? Explain with the particle model.→ 冷えると中の気体の粒子の動きがおそくなり、内側の壁にぶつかる勢いと回数が減って中の圧力が小さくなる。外の空気の圧力のほうが大きくなるので、ボトルが押されてへこむ。When cooled, the gas particles inside move more slowly, so they hit the inner walls less often and less hard, and the pressure inside drops. The outside air pressure is then larger and pushes the bottle in.
- 自転車のタイヤに空気を入れるとタイヤが固くなるのはなぜか。Why does a bicycle tire become hard when you pump air into it?→ ほぼ同じ体積の中に粒子の数が増えるので、壁(タイヤの内側)にぶつかる回数が増えて圧力が大きくなるから。シミュレーションで粒子数を増やすと圧力が上がるのと同じである。More particles are packed into nearly the same volume, so they hit the inside of the tire more often and the pressure increases. It is the same as raising the number of particles in the simulation.
よくある誤解Common misconceptions
- 気体を温めると粒子そのものが大きくなる(ふくらむ)と考える。→ 粒子の大きさは変わらず、動きが速くなるだけである。Thinking that heating a gas makes the particles themselves bigger. → The particles stay the same size; they only move faster.
- 気体の粒子はすき間なくつまっていると考える。→ 気体では粒子どうしの間隔が粒子の大きさよりずっと広く、粒子は自由に飛びまわっている。Thinking gas particles are packed together with no gaps. → In a gas, the spaces between particles are much larger than the particles, and the particles move freely.

温度はケルビン(K)で表示されるが、中1では「数値が大きいほど高温」と説明すれば十分(300 K ≈ 27℃)。圧力は直近 1.5 秒の壁への衝突から求めているため値がゆらぐので、2〜3 秒待って読ませるとよい。二次元の簡単なモデルで、粒子は実際よりずっと大きく少なく描かれている。Temperature is shown in kelvin (K); for grade 7 it is enough to say that a larger number means hotter (300 K ≈ 27 °C). Pressure is calculated from wall collisions over the last 1.5 s, so the value fluctuates; have students wait 2–3 seconds before reading it. This is a simple 2-D model in which the particles are drawn far larger and fewer than in a real gas.
